The ninth season of the singing talent show The Voice of Germany was broadcast on television from September 12 to November 10, 2019. Like the four previous seasons , it was moderated by Thore Schölermann and Lena Gercke . The jury included the singer and songwriter Mark Forster , the songwriter, guitarist and singer Rea Garvey and, for the first time, the pop musician Alice Merton and the rapper Sido . In addition, there was a fifth coach for the first time, Nico Santos , who was able to give some eliminated candidates a second chance in each phase via the "comeback stage" and, like the four other coaches, entered the semifinals with two candidates. The winner was Claudia Emmanuela Santoso from Alice Merton's coaching group.

First phase: the blind auditions

The castings for the ninth season took place from February to March 2019, but will not be shown on television. The blind auditions were recorded from June 7 to 12, 2019 in the Adlershof studio in Berlin and broadcast in nine television programs from September 12 to October 10, 2019. The jury selected 74 candidates for the second phase, in which Alice Merton and Sido moved in with 19 each and Mark Forster and Rea Garvey with 18 each.

The candidates Marita Hintz, Stefanie Stuber, Claudia Emmanuela Santoso , Tyrone Frank, Anika Loffhagen, Niklas Schregel, Philipp Fixmer, Erwin Kintop , Fidi Steinbeck, Madeline Henning, Farman Isajew, Freschta Akbarzada, Seyran Ismayilkhanov, Marie Weiß, Anna received all four jury votes Strohmayr, Andrew Telles, Tori Roe, Nicolas Granados, David Maresch and Judith Jensen. Of these twenty, seven opted for Rea Garvey, six for Mark Forster, four for Alice Merton and three for Sido as coach. Nico Santos chose six participants, for whom none of the four coaches had turned around, for the first phase of the comeback stage.

Second phase: the battle round

The Battle Round was recorded in Berlin from August 5 to 7, 2019 and broadcast in four television programs from October 13 to October 24, 2019.

Nine one-on-one duels took place in Rea Garvey's group of 18 candidates. In the other three groups, 19 candidates fought eight one-on-one duels and one three-way battle each. In Mark Forster's group, Mark Agpas joined the 18 participants, who was unable to take part in the battle round in the eighth season for health reasons. The respective coach usually selected a participant in each battle directly into the next phase. Sido chose neither of the two participants in one of his battles. As in previous years, losing candidates in a battle could get into the next phase via a “steal deal” if one of the other coaches took them over. If more than one of the other coaches wanted to do this, the participant chose one of them as his new coach. But for the first time every coach had a "steal deal seat": The coach was allowed to use the steal deal as often as he wanted, but each candidate he "stole" replaced any earlier candidate. After all, each coach was only allowed to take the participant who was last on his steal deal seat with him. Sido's group went into the sing-off phase with nine and the other three coaching groups with ten candidates. Nico Santos chose two more participants for the third phase of the Comeback Stage.

The third phase, called “Sing Off” in the previous three seasons, was recorded on September 10 and 11, 2019 in Berlin and broadcast in two television programs on October 27 and October 31, 2019. Alice Merton's candidates were supported by Ryan Tedder , Mark Forster's participants by Natasha Bedingfield , Rea Garvey's candidates by Michael Schulte and Sido's protégés by James Blunt . In the Sing Off each of the 39 remaining participants performed a song; each coach selected two of his candidates for the live show phase. Of the eight live show participants, five received all four jury votes in the blind auditions, namely Claudia Emmanuela Santoso, Fidi Steinbeck, Freschta Akbarzada, Erwin Kintop and Marita Hintz.
