Lewis Capaldi (2018)

Lewis Capaldi (born October 7, 1996 in Bathgate ) is a Scottish singer and songwriter .

Career

Capaldi took guitar lessons at the age of nine and began performing as a singer in pubs when he was twelve .

On May 16, 2017, he released his first song Bruises . The song was played almost 28 million times on Spotify worldwide in a short period of time . Shortly thereafter, he was signed by Virgin Records and Capitol Records and released his first EP Bloom on October 20, 2017 in collaboration with Grammy Award- winning producer Malay.

He was named Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the Scottish Music Awards 2017 .

In the first half of 2018 he toured North America and Europe. He then released the singles Rush and Tough . The song Someone You Loved , released in November 2018, reached number one on the UK charts in March 2019 . His distant relative Peter Capaldi appeared in the music video for this song . In October 2019, the song also rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States .

The song was voted Song of the Year at the Brit Awards 2020 , and Capaldi also received the award for best new artist. He was nominated in two other categories.
