Crawling is the second single from the album Hybrid Theory the US nu-metal - band Linkin Park . It was released on May 1, 2001. Singer Chester Bennington noted that "Crawling" was the hardest Linkin Park song to sing. He commented that the importance of "crawling" was inspired by his own struggles against substance abuse. "Crawling" is about when you no longer have control over yourself with regard to alcohol and other drugs . Hence the lines "these wounds, they will not heal".

text

The lyrics of Crawling changed a lot during the creation of the song. Originally much more depression was reflected in the text, passages such as “this lack of self-control I found so overwhelming” and “I can't seem to find the strength within” were replaced by “this lack of self-control I fear is never ending ”and“ I can't seem to find myself again ”replaced. The style of singing has become much more aggressive compared to the original version of crawling. The bridge that Mike Shinoda raps after the 2nd verse without the accompaniment of the main instruments has been completely removed.

Music video

The music video shows on the one hand the band playing the song in a crystal-like room, and on the other a young woman (played by Katelyn Rosaasen), either alone in different environments or opposite the band.

publication

The piece appeared on a 2-track single and included as the B-side a live version of Papercut , which was created on the BBC . As an extra, the single contained a so-called "backstage video footage". A remix version of the song, Krwlng, can be found on the remix album Reanimation .
