Meteora is the second studio album of the American nu-metal - band Linkin Park . It was released on March 25, 2003 on Warner Brothers Records and hardly differs from its predecessor, Hybrid Theory, which was influenced by Nu Metal . The name Meteora comes from the Meteora monasteries (Greek Μετέωρα (n. Pl.)), East of the Pindus Mountains near the city of Kalambaka in Thessaly, Greece.
Emergence
According to the band, the pieces on Meteora were mainly written in four different locations. In addition to NRG Studios in California and Soundtrack Studios in New York, some tracks were also developed on the tour bus and in Mike Shinoda's house. Most of the songwriting took place in 2002. The intro of the track Somewhere I Belong was revised by Mike Shinoda after singer Chester Bennington created the basis for the track with acoustic guitar playing and divided into four parts and rearranged, as the reversal of the riff (running backwards of the intro is that which gave the song its unique sound) had changed the chord progression. Bennington and Shinoda recorded 30 versions of the chorus for the song, "each time scrapping the previous version in search of something better."
The lyrical idea for Breaking the Habit was over five years old at the time of recording. When Mike Shinoda was working on an interlude , guitarist Brad Delson and DJ Joseph Hahn suggested making an entire song out of the musical interlude. The preliminary title of the song was Drawing , but was expanded by Shinoda when writing lyrics. The intro foreword was recorded after the rest of the album was completed. The final song Numb was written shortly before Linkin Park moved into NRG Studios .
Music genre
Compared to the previous album Hybrid Theory , released three years earlier, Meteora shows more pronounced influences of rapcore ( Lying from You , Hit the Floor , Figure.09 ), hip-hop ( Nobody's listening ) and electronic music ( Breaking the Habit ).
Linkin Park also refrained from using swear words in the lyrics of this album.

Alexander Cordas from laut.de rated the album with three out of a possible five points. Meteora "turned out exactly as you could expect" and shows only very minor deviations from the debut album Hybrid Theory . Most of the pieces sound "too smooth, too hit-oriented," are devoid of "ingenuity" and are referred to as "fast food nu metal". Nevertheless, “the unbelievably fat sound is impressive.” The song Faint is called the “highlight of the album” because it “breaks out of the same mid-tempo quark”.
