The song is written from the perspective of a person who is torn and empty inside. Feeling confused, exhausted, and alone, he screams out his feelings to see if there are other people with such thoughts. The desire of the lyric self is to be freed from its pain, grief and anger and thus to find out where it belongs. The lyrical ego looks for the faults in itself and finally resolves to heal its inner wounds and to come out of itself in order to find the right way to find itself.

Mike Shinoda raps his part of the lyrics while Chester Bennington sings or screams.
