On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Hybrid Theory album , Linkin Park published an official version of the song on their YouTube channel on August 13, 2020.

background

She Couldn't was written and recorded by Hybrid Theory (now Linkin Park ) after the addition of singer Chester Bennington in 1999. For legal reasons, She Couldn't is the only known Linkin Park song that was never officially released by Linkin Park. Became known She Could not until early July 2009, when eBay three bootlegs appeared the hybrid Theory 8-track demo. The piece uses a sample from the song B-Boy Document 99 by The High & Mighty . Mike Shinoda commented on the song on his blog on July 3, 2009:

“Many of you have asked about an old demo that is floating around. The song is called "She Couldn't." We recorded it in 1999 during the making of Hybrid Theory, but it never made an album and was never released by us. For legal reasons, that's all I can say about the song, but I hope this clears things up! "

" Many of you asked about an old demo that was haunted around. The song is called 'She Couldn't'. We recorded it in 1999 while we were working on Hybrid Theory , but it never made it onto an album and we never released it. For legal reasons, that's all I can say about the song, but I hope that clears it up! "

- Mike Shinoda, 2009

The post has now disappeared from Shinoda's blog.

She Couldn't is quieter and more pop- heavy compared to other songs from the hybrid theory era , while other Linkin Park songs from this time such as B. And One and Papercut are more likely to be assigned to Nu Metal .

Text design

Dominating She Could not the text lines "will not be long 'til everybody knows" from a sample of the song B-Boy Document 99 , and sung by Chester Bennington "You know, She Could not stay here with you / you know she had to go / even though, she couldn't stay here with you / you know, you're not alone ”. Bennington sings the stanzas and the introduction to the chorus while Shinoda raps the main part of the chorus.
