Recharged (. English for: " Nachgeladen ") is the second remix album of American alternative rock - band Linkin Park after resuscitation , and the third including the mashup -album Collision Course . It was released in Germany on October 25, 2013. In addition to remixing songs from Living Things , A Light That Never Comes , a collaboration with Steve Aoki , also features a new title in two versions on the album.

Emergence

Five of the fourteen songs and the bonus track were released long before the album. Those who had pre-ordered Living Things on the band's homepage were sent a remix every month for eight months, under the heading Living Things Remixed . The remixes that resulted from this project prompted Mike Shinoda to record a regular remix album after all: “After reanimation I told a lot of people that I would never put together a remix album again ... but when I started, all these great reinterpretations hearing about Living Things made me change my mind. The result of that, Recharged, is definitely worth it. "

Finally, on September 12, 2013, the band officially announced the release of a remix album. On the same day the game LP Recharge was activated on Facebook , with which the song A Light That Never Comes could be activated. Previously, A Light That Never Comes already on August 10 at a concert of Steve Aoki, in which Chester Bennington appeared and Mike Shinoda as guests, has been played in Japan.

It is also known that Shinoda had a lot to do with EDM producers after the release of Living Things . Among other things, he worked with DJ Fresh and Avicii . With the latter, no collaboration finally came about, but it was Shinoda who suggested he get Aloe Blacc on board for his new album , with which he would later write the global hit Wake Me Up . Steve Aoki spoke of four to five songs he wrote with Linkin Park. This gave rise to the title A Light That Never Comes .

content

Recharged is basically a Remix album by Living Things , but does not include the song In My Remains and the instrumental Tinfoil . The titles I'll Be Gone and Until It Breaks are represented twice. In addition, it has a completely new song on the record with the pre-single A Light That Never Comes , the remix of which is also included by the producer legend Rick Rubin . In Facebook - Q & A answered Mike Shinoda asked why the song In My Remains , so that they simply do not get consistently Remix missing that was good enough.

As is often the case with remixes, without exception all remixes are longer than their original, so that the standard version with 68:43 minutes (14 tracks) is almost twice as long as Living Things (36:59 minutes, 12 tracks) Has playing time. The bonus track Burn It Down ( Paul van Dyk Remix) even lasts exactly eight minutes.

In addition to the Recharged and Living Things albums, a special edition also includes a 48-page booklet and a 3D sculpture based on the album artwork, with which you can interact with the included stylus .

Music genre

All remixes are basically electronic, but have different influences in particular. The spectrum includes genres such as dubstep , trance , drum 'n' bass , techno , progressive house , breakcore and trap , but also hip-hop . In addition to Linkin Park producers Mike Shinoda and Rick Rubin, the remixers include more or less well-known personalities from the EDM sector. Mike Shinoda, Cody B. Ware and Ryu , a friend of Shinoda from the side project Fort Minor , as well as the guest stars Pusha T and Bun B played new rap performances.

The reviews were mixed. It is noticeable that many are reminded of Korn's The Path of Totality album .

Laut.de first of all states that “in contrast to the first remix album, there were already massive synth elements in the original versions, so this time more dubstep and other electro influences dictate the rhythm of the fifteen reinterpretations”. The author Uli Brechtold also uses Korn's album The Path of Totality as a comparison and criticizes both. He particularly disliked the fact that the remixers pushed themselves too much into the foreground and didn't start with existing song material. Still, he highlighted the remix of Victimized and the money mark remix of Until It Breaks , and also praised the efforts of Pusha T, Cody B. Ware, and Ryu as creative. He sums up that the new interpretations are more energetic and varied, but the use of synthesizers and electronic beats gets on your nerves after a short time.

Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic is of the opinion that Linkin Park and EDM go well together. The combination of hard rock and EDM is nothing new, he cites Korn's The Path of Totality as an example. But he believes that the album will hardly convince fans of electronic music, rather it will appeal to the hardcore fans of Linkin Park.

Kate Hutchinson from New Musical Express takes Recharged as further proof that EDM is the successor to Nu Metal , probably based on the dubstep- inspired album The Path of Totality by Nu-Metal co-founder Korn. She comes to the conclusion that only Rick Rubin's hip-hop remix of A Light That Never Comes can save it from disaster.
