Until It's Gone is a song by the American rock band Linkin Park . The song was originally recorded by the band for their sixth studio album, The Hunting Party , where it appears as the seventh track on the album. Produced by Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson , the track also appears on the single of the same name, released by Warner Bros Records and Machine Shop Recordings on May 6, 2014. The single is the second released to promote The Hunting Party. The single is also part of the action-adventure computer game Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark , which was released on June 24, 2014.

In a preview of the Rolling Stones album, the song was described as follows: “ Until It's Gone starts with a kind of throbbing synth effect, which was the calling card of the group on their 2000 debut Hybrid Theory, but to a brooding, textured gloom -Rocker will, via singer Chester Bennington, remind listeners that [they] won't know what you have until it's gone. ”In another preview from Loudwire, the single is said to be“ It's a mid-tempo track with softer lyrics by Chester Bennington, who proves his vocal versatility. The dreamy and atmospheric sounds are enough to take you away, but Bennington gets you back down to earth while recommending a familiar choir. ”The song continues its outro on The Hunting Party's eighth track and fourth single Rebellion continues with System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian .

Lyrically, the song is about a failed relationship in which the lead singer Chester Bennington was. AltWire explains it as “starting with a synth line similar to Numb from 2003's Meteora album, with an unexpectedly brooding gothic rock anthem that emerged as one of the songs on The Hunting Party's 6-track sampler recently a choir-like background and intense orchestral backgrounds that stay and work even after it's gone ”.

Music video

A music video for the track premiered on YouTube on May 5, 2014. The three-minute video directed by Austin Saya was filmed in Los Angeles, California.On June 11, 2014, an official music video directed by Joe Hahn was released. The video was released on premiered on the band's official Facebook page and is now uploaded to their official YouTube channel. The video was nominated for the "Best Rock Video" category at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.
