Collision Course ( English for " collision course ") is a mashup album of American rapper Jay-Z and the US nu-metal - band Linkin Park . It was created as part of MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups and was released on November 30, 2004 as CD and DVD. Due to its short duration, the album is mostly considered an EP . This makes it one of the five EPs that reached number one on the US Billboard charts .

Emergence

For the MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups , Jay-Z asked Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park as a potential partner. He then made some remixes and sent them back. Now the project has definitely been taken up.

For the live shows, some parts were changed a bit so that they fit together better. When the decision was made to produce an album, all the songs were also re-recorded. The recordings lasted four days.

But even after that, Mike Shinoda's collaboration with Jay-Z continued. In 2005 Jay-Z acted as executive producer for the debut album The Rising Tied of Shinoda's solo project Fort Minor .

The criticism was sometimes very different. While David Jeffries from Allmusic praised and awarded the mashup , laut.de wrote : “Creativity is dead, long live the trend of the year.” Only Numb / Encore sounds quite acceptable. Rolling Stone magazine also criticizes the album and finds that Linkin Park cannot keep up with Jay-Z and spoil the fun. CDstarts.de praises that the styles harmonized very well.
