Fonce Mizell

Alphonso "Fonce" Mizell (born January 15, 1943 in Englewood (New Jersey) , † July 5, 2011 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American musician and producer who, along with his brother Larry Mizell, in the 1970s Has produced a number of successful fusion , funk and rhythm and blues albums.

Fonce Mizell studied music at Howard University with Donald Byrd . After his studies, he became a member of the so-called Corporation , a production team in which he, together with Deke Richards and the founder of Motown , Berry Gordy hits like I Want You Back and ABC for the Jackson 5 and other Motown musicians from 1969 to 1971 wrote.

In 1972 he left the corporation and founded the production company Sky High Productions with his brother Larry. The first production, the album Black Byrd by Donald Byrd , was a success and the best-selling album on Blue Note Records . In addition to other albums for Byrd such as Street Lady and Stepping into Tomorrow , Mizell has worked with musicians such as Michael Jackson , Edwin Starr , Bobbi Humphrey and Gary Bartz . Fonce Mizell died of a heart attack in July 2011 at the age of 68.
