Larry Mizell

Larry Mizell (actually Laurence C. Mizell) (* 17th February 1944 in Englewood (New Jersey) ) is an American musician, composer, arranger and producer who along with his brother Fonce Mizell a number of successful in the 1970 merger -, funk - and rhythm and blues albums.

Life

Larry Mizell studied electrical engineering first at Howard University and later at New York University , where he completed his studies with a master's degree. He gave up his job at Grumman Aerospace Corporation after completing his studies in order to set up a production company, Sky High Productions, with his brother in California .

The company produced fusion and jazz radio albums , including for Blue Note Records . The first album produced for Donald Byrd , Black Byrd, became the best-selling Blue Notes Records album of all time. Further recordings with Byrd followed, such as the concept album Street Lady, Stepping into Tomorrow and Places and Spaces. Larry Mizell composed many pieces himself, sang in the background and played the piano and synthesizer on Sky High productions.
