Bishopbriggs ( Sarah Grace McLaughlin * 18th July 1992 in London ) is a British alternative - / Electronic - musician .
Life
Bishopbriggs was the daughter of Scottish parents, from Bishopbriggs ( Scotland originate), in London ( England born). Her parents' place of origin later inspired her artist name . She spent her childhood and youth in Japan and Hong Kong , where she already wrote poetry. When she was 18, she moved to Los Angeles to study music, and she still lives in the city today.
Career
An appearance in a bar led to the recording of their first single Wild Horses in 2015 , then under their old stage name Bishop . Bishop Briggs changed this to her current stage name in 2016 to avoid confusion with the band Bishop . Wild Horses was featured in a television commercial for a car brand in the US and became an Internet hit. The second single River followed in January 2016 , which was also very successful on the Internet. As a result, she was booked by other artists (including Coldplay ) as an opening act at their concerts and was able to increase her popularity further. An appearance on the Tonight Show at Jimmy Fallon also contributed to her fame. In July 2017, she was awarded a gold record by the Recording Industry Association of America for over 500,000 River units sold . The singles The Way I Do , Pray (Empty Gun) and Be Your Love were released in May, August and September 2016 . Bishop Briggs contributed the song Mercy to the 2017 soundtrack for the film xXx: The Return of Xander Cage .
On April 14, 2017, Bishop Briggs' first EP Bishop Briggs was released , which contains three of the previous five singles and three other songs. In the summer of 2017, Vodafone used Be Your Love as a song for an advertising campaign.
In 2018 Republic Records released the song Never Tear Us Apart from the soundtrack of the movie Fifty Shades of Gray as a single. The song is a cover version , the original of which was released in 1988 by the Australian band INXS .
On April 20, 2018, the Teleport Records label released Bishop Briggs' first studio album. Church of Scars contains six previously single or EP tracks and four previously unreleased songs.
Just 18 months after her debut album, Briggs released its successor on November 8, 2019. Champion (written in capital letters as CHAMPION ) was released on the major label Island Records and contains ten tracks with a total playing length of 28 minutes and 19 seconds. In terms of content, Briggs processes the aftermath of a failed relationship on the album, transforming the pain of grief in her voice into a strength, as Neil Z. Yeung writes in his review on Allmusic .
