history

2002 to 2006: Beginnings on MySpace

In the spring of 2002 the band was formed by singer and producer Ryan Tedder with Zach Filkins, who later became the group's guitarist. A year later, Drew Brown, Eddie Fisher and Tim Myers joined the band (2003), followed by a record deal with Columbia Records . As early as 2006, the band became known through the online service Myspace Music and achieved their first notable successes. Since June 2006, the band's songs have been played around 22 million times worldwide on the platform. In addition, they have been one of the top artists on MySpace since summer 2006.

2007 to 2008: Dreaming Out Loud

In early 2007 Tim Myers left the group and was replaced by Brent Kutzle. In 2007 the group switched to the record company Interscope Records . A short time later, the American hip-hop musician Timbaland , who already knew Ryan Tedder, recorded a remix of their song Apologize . The song made it onto the Shock Value album and became an international number one hit months later. The song Apologize is part of the soundtrack of Til Schweiger's film Keinohrhasen .

At the end of 2007 the debut album Dreaming Out Loud was released . The successor single to Apologize was the song Stop and Stare , which was released in Germany on March 14, 2008 and entered the German single charts at number seven. With this song, the group had an appearance in the episode Alte Freunde ( OT : Hero ) of the TV series Smallville in the same year .

In August 2007, the song Say (All I Need) was released as the third single from their debut album. The song was part of the soundtrack of the US reality series The Hills and the US fantasy series Vampire Diaries . They also appeared on US television on the TV show So You Think You Can Dance , where they performed the song. In France the track was released as a collaboration with the French singer Sheryfa Luna . Commercially, the song did not follow the success of its predecessors despite the strong promotion.

On September 8, 2008, Mercy was released as the fourth single from Dreaming Out Loud . The last release was the song Come Home on July 14th, 2009 . The version that was used for the single was re-produced and includes vocal contributions from the American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles . The ballad has appeared in several television series, including Gossip Girl , Cold Case and the Vampire Diaries . Furthermore, the song advanced to the US singles charts.

2009 to 2011: Waking Up

In September 2009 the song All the Right Moves was released as the first single from their second studio album Waking Up . The song sold over two million times in the USA alone, and it reached the top ten positions on the official single charts in around ten countries. In most countries, however, it was not successful until January of the following year. The reason for this was that All the Right Moves was released as a second single in many countries between January and March 2010.

The second single from the album, Secrets, followed in October 2009 . This song is the first release in Europe. Secrets is part of the soundtrack of the film Zweiohrküken , the sequel to Keinohrhasen , whose scenes can also be seen in one of the four music videos. Another version shows scenes from the sixth season of the US TV series Lost , a third version shows the worldwide video version in which a dancer, played by Nora Tschirner , can be seen and the fourth version contains scenes from the Disney film Duel of the magicians .

In December 2009 their second studio album Waking Up was finally released , which did not reach as high chart positions as the debut album, but was awarded with various records. The third release from the album was released on May 31, 2010. This is called Marchin 'On and appeared on the single in a new version as a Patriot Remix and in a version that was produced together with Timbaland. The song was used by ZDF as the anthem of the 2010 soccer World Cup . In Germany and Austria they reached the top 10 of the single charts.

Good Life was released on November 19, 2010 as the last single from the studio album. In contrast to its predecessor, this single could again allow a placement in the USA; so it moved up to number 8 on the Billboard Hot-100 and sold over three million times there. A remix with British rapper BoB was released shortly after the release .

2013 to 2014: Native

The third studio album Native was released in Germany on March 22, 2013. On September 27, 2012, they released the pre-single Feel Again , which premiered during the ABC television show Good Morning America the previous month. Feel Again serves as the theme song for the film Guardian Angel by Til Schweiger . The track was sold over a million times and was placed in the top 10 of the German single charts.

If I Lose Myself was released on January 8, 2013 as the second single from Native . This was able to exceed the success of its predecessor and moved up to the top ten of the single charts in almost 10 countries. The group performed with the song in March 2013 along with American Idol winner Katharine McPhee on its twelfth season. The Swedish DJ and producer Alesso contributed a remix to If I Lose Myself , which was released as a single. This also achieved numerous chart placements and initiated the highest ranking in Great Britain.

On April 2, 2013 the band started their "Native Tour". This started only in small halls, but with the increasing success of the album and many bonus dates thanks to demand they were able to visit large arenas. After 173 shows, the tour ended on September 20th in Sao Paulo. The band also performed repeatedly in Germany during the tour.

On June 14, 2013, they released Counting Stars as the third single from the studio album. The song became the most successful track on the album and sold over 8 million times. In addition to 27 placements in the top 10, the chart topped in Great Britain, Poland and Canada, among others. At the same time, the studio album also developed into a success that followed the sales figures and high chart positions of its predecessors. Measured by the record awards , the album sold at least 1.8 million copies.

For the soccer World Cup 2014 in Brazil, ZDF selected Love Runs Out as the official song for its soccer broadcasts . This was released as a single in April 2014. As early as the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the ZDF had his pictures of the day with the song Marchin 'On deposited by OneRepublic. At the same time, the deluxe edition of Native was released along with two new songs.

On September 23, 2014, OneRepublic released the song I Lived as the last single from Native . It was originally supposed to be released as the fourth single in January 2014, but lost this position at short notice to Love Runs Out . While in Great Britain it achieved record status, the song could not follow up on the positions of its predecessor.

In November 2014 , the group tweeted a photo with the signature “Hotel shots, Poland. Album 4 ”and“ Afternoon, we're working on a new album, and this is the outlook… LP 4 is already fun ”. In April 2015, Ryan Tedder said in an interview that they had taken a new direction, but that they had orientated themselves on all the sounds they had ever used. Guitarist Drew Brown said he was looking forward to the release and they felt it would be their best result ever. In June 2015, Tedder announced that they were working on a song called Colors and it would be his favorite song on the album. That same month they released a video showing the group working on different tunes for the album.

2016: Oh My My

The first single from her fourth studio album followed in May 2016. This is called Wherever I Go and reached the upper half of the chart in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and silver status in the United Kingdom. The song served as the soundtrack for the US film drama Hidden Beauty .

From the OneRepublic Good Life Foundation fund , the band donated an amount of over 100,000 US dollars to the White Ring , which is to be donated to the victims of the terrorist attack on a Berlin Christmas market on December 19, 2016 .
