Unconditionally ( Engl . For Unconditional ) is a song by American singer Katy Perry from her fourth album Prism . Perry wrote the song together with producer Dr. Luke , Max Martin and Cirkut . It was released as the second single from the album on October 18, 2013.

background

In April 2013, Perry toured Madagascar with UNICEF and visited recently built schools there. According to her own statements, it was the feeling of togetherness and charity during this stay that moved her to write the song.

I was kind of inspired by the love that I saw. We'd go in these cruisers up the mountain for two or three hours, to the middle of nowhere, to check out these schools that they'd build, and I went to the top of this mountain, I saw all these children, and the love that they had towards each other. It was this unconditional love between all of them. It was that kind of pure love that's unaffected by the trends of the world.

Music video

Two days after the song was released, a black and white lyric video was uploaded to Vevo and YouTube . In the video shot by Aya Tanimura , actress Janell Shirtcliff and model Erika Linder can be seen expressing their unconditional love. The official music video was shot in London in October 2013 . Sources of inspiration for the video were the films Dangerous Liaisons and Anna Karenina . It premiered on November 19, 2013 on MTV .
