Prism is the fourth studio album by the American singer Katy Perry . It was released on October 18, 2013 by Capitol Records .

background

After her 2012 California Dreams Tour ended , Perry announced that she intended to live a little life before moving on to recording new material worth listening to. Shortly thereafter, her marriage to comedian Russell Brand was officially dissolved, after which she claims to have suffered from depression , which also led to suicidal thoughts. All of this should have an impact on their future album. In an interview with Vogue , she said:

It was inevitable, after what I went through. If I had a time machine and could go back in time, I would. But I can't, so, you'll discover another part of me .

- Katy Perry

In September 2013, the album was previewed to 100 industry insiders and journalists in New York City , Atlanta and Los Angeles. The album cover was revealed on September 6, 2013 during an interview on Good Morning America. It was designed by the American photographer Ryan McGinley .

The album could be streamed online from October 17, 2013. In Ireland , Italy , Slovakia and Slovenia it was released the next day. Worldwide release date was October 22, 2013. To further promote the album, the Prismatic World Tour began on May 7, 2014 in the Odyssey Arena in Belfast with Icona Pop as opening act.
