Dark Horse is a song by US singer Katy Perry from her fourth album Prism . It was officially released as the third single on December 17, 2013, after having been released as a promo single three months earlier. The song was composed by rapper Juicy J added.

Both Perry and Juicy J, as well as the song's producers, Max Martin , Cirkut and Dr. Luke wrote the song. The basic idea comes from Perry and the singer Sarah Hudson, who is also involved in the text . The source of inspiration was the 1996 film The Witches Club . Perry sang the song at the iHeart Radio Awards in Las Vegas , the iTunes Festival in London , the BRIT Awards 2014 and at The Voice of Germany .

Music video

The music video is directed by Mathew Cullen , who previously worked with Perry on the music video for the song California Gurls . The theme of the video is ancient Egyptian culture . It was published on February 20, 2014 on Vevo and YouTube .
