Awolnation ( spelling : AWOLNATION ) is an American indie rock band and the solo project of Aaron Bruno (former member of the bands Under the Influence of Giants and Home Town Hero ).

The band is signed to Red Bull Records and their first EP Back from Earth was released on May 18, 2010 on iTunes . Awolnation has performed with Weezer and MGMT . The band's first single, Sail , debuted at # 30 on the US Billboard Alternative Song Chart in the week of February 10, 2011. The debut album Megalithic Symphony with 15 songs was released digitally on March 15, 2011, the CD followed on March 29, 2011 on Red Bull Records.

Surname

The name "Awolnation" originated from Aaron Bruno's nickname in high school . In an interview with Kristin Houser of the LA Music Blog, he stated that "it would be better to disappear without saying goodbye because it's easier", from which his nickname Awol (abbreviation from the English "Absence Without Leave", in German "forbidden") or "unannounced absence").
