Nutbush City Limits is a song written by Tina Turner that she released in June 1973 with her then-husband Ike as the duo Ike & Tina Turner . The piece is one of her most famous songs.

Original version

The piece was produced in May 1973 by Ike Turner at Bolic Sound Studio. The single was released in June 1973. In November 1973 the piece appeared on the album of the same name. The piece reached number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 4 on the UK charts. It was also successful in the rest of Europe in 1974 - it reached 2nd place in Germany , 1st place in Austria and 12th place in Switzerland .

Typical of the time that none of the session musicians who contributed to "Nutbush City Limits" were mentioned on the cover. It has been rumored for years that Marc Bolan , the front man of the glam rock band T. Rex , played the guitar on the track. Gloria Jones , his girlfriend at the time, who herself provided the background vocals for Ike & Tina Turner in the 1960s, explained this in the BBC4 documentary: "Marc Bolan The Final Word" (2007). At the time, Marc Bolan was touring the United States and was in the Los Angeles area in the mid-1970s. He has also appeared on other Ike & Tina Turner singles. ("Sexy Ida (Part 2)" and "Baby-Get It On")

Other versions

Tina Turner sang Nutbush City Limits often live during her solo career and released it twice as a single, once in a live version (1988) - the release from the album Tina Live in Europe reached number 45 in the charts in Germany - and once as “The 90s Version "(1991). The latter version made it to number 25 in Germany and Austria, to number 12 in the charts in Switzerland, and to number 23 in Great Britain. This version was a release from the album Simply the Best . There is also a cover version of Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band (1976), which was released as a single. Pearl Aday sang the song on her 2010 album Little Immaculate White Fox .

In 1980 Brian Johnson sang Nutbush City Limits with Whole Lotta Rosie at his first AC / DC audition , after which he became the band's lead singer.
