Singles

" Let's Stay Together " was created in collaboration with Heaven 17 , was released as a single in 1983 and reached number six in the UK and number four in the Netherlands. A few months later the single was also released in the US and was a success. It was Tina Turner's first hit after breaking up with Ike. The song was written by Al Green and originally appeared on Al Green's album of the same name in 1972. The success that Tina Turner had with her version contributed significantly to the fact that the album Private Dancer was produced.

" Better Be Good to Me " was the first single from the album. The single version reached number five on the Billboard charts in the United States. The song received a Grammy in the category "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance".

" What's Love Got to Do with It " was released as the second single. It reached the top of the singles charts in the USA and Australia. It was Tina Turner's first No. 1 hit as a solo artist. The title later served as the name for the film of the same name about Tina Turner's years with Ike Turner and the separation from him.

" Private Dancer " was released as a single in 1984. The song was written by Mark Knopfler for his band Dire Straits and was supposed to appear on the album Love Over Gold (1982). Mark Knopfler, however, believed that only a woman could sing this song. "Private Dancer" is still often played by radio stations today and was used as a popular background song in many films and TV productions and is extremely well known.

" I Can't Stand the Rain " was released as a single in 1985. The song was written by Ann Peebles, Don Bryant and Bernard Miller. Since then it has been covered by several artists / bands. Tina Turner's single version reached number 57 in Great Britain, number nine in Germany and number two in France in the singles charts.
