Tina Turns the Country On is the solo debut album of Tina Turner . It was published by United Artists in August 1974 .

Tina Turns the Country On was recorded when Tina Turner was still part of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue . Turner sings covers of artists such as Kris Kristofferson , Bob Dylan , Olivia Newton-John , James Taylor and Dolly Parton on this album . The album did not hit the charts, but it was nominated for a Grammy Award in the "Best R&B Vocal Performance Female" category.
The album has not yet been released on CD. However, in addition to the actual record, various country songs from the recording sessions were subsequently released. The title is a play on words: Translated it can mean both: "Tina turns the country music on" and "Tina turns the country on".
