John Henry Rostill (born June 16, 1942 in Birmingham , United Kingdom , † November 26, 1973 in Radlett ) was a British bassist and composer. He attended the Rutlish School in south London .

Rostill left the group "The Interns" to fill the vacancy after Brian Locking as Shadows bassist in 1963 . After the Shadows disbanded in 1969, John Rostill became a member of the Tom Jones Band and went to America with them. After his return from the USA he worked with the reunited Shadows and wrote songs with Bruce Welch and others. a. for Olivia Newton-John .

On November 26, 1973, John Rostill was found lifeless by Bruce Welch in his studio in Radlett; John was still clutching his bass guitar tightly, apparently electrocuted. The later autopsy, however, revealed that an overdose of sleeping pills was the cause of the death. The fact that the access door to the music studio was blocked from the inside by an advanced piano also speaks for the suicide. Bruce Welch tried unsuccessfully to gain access to the studio. He could look through the window by climbing a ladder. Together with the Rostill couple's nanny, the door blockade was overcome.
