Break Every Rule is Tina Turner's sixth studio album . It was released on Capitol Records in September 1986 . The album reached number 1 in Germany and Switzerland , number 23 in the USA and number 2 in Austria and Great Britain .

After Private Dancer had set the bar high for Tina Turner, she managed to build on success in many places with Break Every Rule . The album was awarded platinum in the USA. The album also achieved platinum status in Germany and Great Britain.

The A-side of the vinyl album was produced by Graham Lyle and Terry Britten , who were also responsible for the hit single What's Love Got to Do with It (1984). On the B-side, among others, Bob Clearmountain and Mark Knopfler worked as producers. The single Typical Male made it to number 2 on the US charts. Back Were You Started received the Grammy for “Best Female Rock Vocal Performance”.

On the website Allmusic.com the reviewer gave 3 out of 5 stars and heard more advantages than disadvantages, and also some "pearls": "While Private Dancer would be a much better introduction to Turner's work as a solo artist, this has more pluses than minuses. "
