We Do not Need Another Hero ( dt. "We do not need another hero") is that of Graham Lyle and Terry Britten written title song of the movie Mad Max - Beyond Thunderdome . The rock ballad was sung by Tina Turner .
Emergence
The song was by Terry Britten produced , which already for Tina Turner What's Love Got to Do with It had written. It is the first song on the soundtrack album for the film Mad Max III and adjacent to the sung also by Tina Turner One of the Living by Holly Knight the only song with vocals. The text and music video for the song tell a different story than the film and were primarily used to promote the film. The song is part of Tina Turner's permanent live repertoire , during the performance she appears in a costume similar to that in the film. The singer describes the song as one of her career highlights:
“The song itself tells a great story. During the recordings I always had the feeling that I had to make it bigger, more heroic. It had to sound like I was at war! "
For a long time it was not known that the children's choir that recorded the background vocals was the school choir of the King's House School in Richmond . In 2005, the musicians' union found out which choir it was because the record label wanted to pay the £ 5,000 pro- rated royalty to the singers, including Lawrence Dallaglio . The recording of the choral singing took place at Abbey Road Studios in London , Tina Turner was not present.

There was also a maxi single with the 6:07 minute version, the was also on the film's soundtrack , the B-side contained a remixed version of the instrumental, and the song was featured on various singles, including I Don't Wanna Lose You (1989), Proud Mary (live version , 1993) and Missing You (1996).
Music video
A music video was also released . In it Tina Turner can be seen in a chainmail-like costume based on the film , similar to the role of the Aunt Entity, which she plays in it. Movie scenes are cut into it. A choir can also be seen as well as Timmy Cappello , her tour saxophonist, percussionist and keyboard player at the time. The video was nominated in 1986 for an MTV Video Music Award for " Best Female Video ".

Tina Turner reached the top ten in numerous countries with We Don't Need Another Hero . In Germany and Switzerland the single was number one on the charts , in the USA , Austria , New Zealand and Norway it was number two. In Great Britain and France , the piece placed third. The song was nominated twice for an award: 1986 for a Grammy for best pop music sung by a woman, and in the same year for the Golden Globe Award for the title "Best Original Song" (best original song).
