Mr. Mister was an American pop-rock - band that existed from 1982 to 1990. She celebrated her greatest success with the album Welcome to the Real World , released in autumn 1985 , on which the two hits Broken Wings and Kyrie were.

history

1978–1984: beginnings

Richard Page initially worked as a studio musician (including for Quincy Jones ) and composed for Michael Jackson , Donna Summer , Kenny Loggins , Al Jarreau and many others.

In the late 1970s he founded the band Pages in Phoenix, Arizona with his friend Steve George, who is also an extremely active studio musician . In 1978 their first album was released, simply called Pages . A year later the album Future Street was released with the single I Do Believe in You (US charts number 84, December 15, 1979). This title was recorded a year later by the band America on the album Alibi ( Capitol Records ), with Richard Page also participating as a background singer.

Also on Future Street , Who's Right, Who's Wrong was released on Kenny Loggins' 1979 platinum album Keep the Fire . In 1981 Pages released their third and last album, like the first under the same name.

Pages emerged from Mr. Mister, who released their first album, I Wear the Face, on RCA Records in the spring of 1984 . The single Hunters of the Night reached number 57 on the Billboard Singles Chart. The follow-up release Talk the Talk , also released as a radio remix on 12 ", could not be placed.

After the album was released, Richard Page was offered to replace Bobby Kimball , the lead singer of Toto , who had temporarily left the band in 1984. Page refused, as did the later offer to replace the 1985 Peter Cetera of Chicago .

1985–1986: Breakthrough with Welcome to the Real World

The band's breakthrough came in the fall of 1985 with the album Welcome to the Real World , from which the songs Broken Wings and Kyrie came and which were able to place themselves as number one hits in the United States . The third single Is It Love reached number eight. The album reached number one on the US charts and went platinum.

1987–1990: Waning success and dissolution

The third album, Go On ... , released in the late summer of 1987, could not build on the previous successes, although the lead single Something Real (Inside Me / Inside You) , which was released on the film soundtrack Youngblood (RCA) in 1985 , did it in the USA at least (albeit just under) made it into the top 30. In 1988 there were differences within the band, whereupon Steve Farris left.

The fourth album Pull , completed in 1989, was not released after the record company dropped the band, which also broke up the following year.

It wasn't until autumn 2010, 21 years later, that this album was released under the direct marketing label Little Dume Recordings, which was founded by Richard Page.

Since 1990: Current activities of the individual members

After the band broke up, Richard Page was again active as a songwriter (co-author of Madonna's I'll Remember , which reached number two in the US singles charts in 1994) and also as a background singer for many artists, and in 1996 he released the album Shelter Me ( Blue Thumb Records) as a solo artist.

In a small edition, a CD with four acoustic versions of the songs The Best Thing , A Simple Life , Even the Pain , Shelter Me and the number one hit Broken Wings from the album Shelter Me was released.

In 1994, the 3rd Matinee band released the album Meanwhile, with Page as lead singer and Madonna producer Patrick Leonard on keyboards. 2003 appeared on the album Sincerely (Mariya Takeuschi Songbook II) released in Japan , the title Pure Love Lucky Star , also with Richard Page as singer.

Steve Farris toured with Whitesnake and recorded pieces with Tori Amos , the 4 Non Blondes and others; Mastelotto played for XTC , King Crimson , Mastica and others; Steve George was musical director for Kenny Loggins until 1997 and toured with Jewel ; John Lang later founded the band Djinn .

Mr. Mister can be seen as a representative of the typical sound of pop-rock of the 1980s. Her two best known and most successful songs are Broken Wings and Kyrie (1985).
