Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the Tina Turner story would be told with "energy" and "passion". The music scenes are "electrifying", they are very well choreographed and played. Angela Bassett's portrayal is above average. Lawrence Fishburne's reputation was going to get even better than before.

Rita Kempley wrote in the Washington Post on June 11, 1993 that the biography was "brutal." Angela Bassett shows her "rank" as an actress and could win the Oscar. The portrayal of Laurence Fishburne amazed by the "humanity" that he brings to his role.

“A cinematic biography of rock musician Tina Turner, prepared as a dignified entertainment film, which describes the beginnings of her career and her life with her despotic husband Ike Turner. Her furious comeback from 1985 is left out. In the rapid change of locations, time periods, costumes, music and stage appearances, well-known stations of their lives are only ticked off, but a lively and quite believable picture of the pop scene of the 60s emerges. "
