Kurt Loder (born May 5, 1945 in Ocean City , New Jersey ) is an American television presenter , music critic , film critic and journalist .

Life

Loder grew up in Ocean City and graduated from Ocean City High School in 1963. He was drafted into the United States Army , where he studied journalism. After completing his military service , he lived in Europe for a few years. From 1972 to 1979 he worked for a local newspaper in New Jersey and a weekly magazine in Long Island . In 1979 he got a job at Rolling Stone , where he worked as an editor for nine years . From 1988 he worked for MTV and became well known among the target group of music television as a newscaster for MTV News ( The Week in Rock ) in German-speaking countries . At MTV he was involved in numerous documentaries as an off-speaker and presenter , reported for many years as a reporter from the annual MTV Video Music Awards and conducted interviews with numerous music stars. An interview with Madonna at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1995 , when the obviously drugged Courtney Love threw objects from her purse at her, stayed in my mind . In 1999 Loder was on site for MTV at the Woodstock III music festival when rioters destroyed the East Stage and set it on fire. Loder and the other MTV employees then had to be evacuated by helicopter.

As a well-known television personality, he made frequent cameo appearances in films and television series; He played himself in the films Ford Fairlane - Rock 'n' Roll Detective , Airheads and Blair Witch 2, among others . He had speaking roles in Celebrity Deathmatch and The Simpsons . In 1986 he published together with Tina Turner their biography Ich, Tina , which is an international bestseller and as Tina - What's Love Got to Do with It? was successfully filmed. Loder was also active as an author for Esquire and Time , he also wrote liner notes for albums by the Ramones , David Bowie , Led Zeppelin , Cher and Einstürzende Neubauten .

Loder writes film reviews for the monthly magazine Reason and presents the monthly program True Stories on the radio station SiriusXM .
