The 1995 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony took place on September 7, 1995. The prize was awarded to videos that premiered from June 16, 1994 to June 15, 1995. The award ceremony took place at Radio City Music Hall , New York City , New York . Dennis Miller was the moderator .

The winners of the evening were the two bands TLC and Weezer , who received a total of four moonmen. TLC's Waterfalls won the Grand Prix Video of the Year . The nominations were dominated by the Michael Jackson / Janet Jackson duet Scream , which received a total of eleven nominations, including in all seven professional categories. For the duet, the two artists received a total of three moonmen.

1995 marked the first year that the Video of the Year and Viewer's Choice categories did not match. Before it was common practice to fill these two categories in parallel. However, Waterfalls still won both categories.

There was a strange scene on the Post Show when Kurt Loder was interviewing Madonna and Courtney Love suddenly threw objects from her purse at her. Loder then invited Love, who was obviously drunk, for an interview.
