The MTV Video Music Awards 1993 ceremony took place on September 2, 1993. The prize was awarded to videos that premiered from June 16, 1992 to June 15, 1993. The award ceremony took place at the Gibson Amphitheater , Universal City , California . Christian Slater was the moderator .

The evening's winner was Pearl Jam , whose video for Jeremy received four Moonmen, including the Video of the Year award. En Vogue followed closely with three awards, which also led the nomination list with eight nominations, and Madonna and Peter Gabriel with two awards. The Viewer's Choice Award won Aerosmith with Livin 'on the Edge .

The biggest upset was the moderation of the drag queen RuPaul together with Milton Berle . Before that, Berle had fondled RuPaul so that the drag queen put him on stage with the quote “So you used to wear gowns, but now you're wearing diapers.” (“You used to wear clothes, today you wear diapers.”) demonstrated.
