MTV Video Music Awards / Best Rap Video
The MTV Video Music Award for Best Rap Video was first given in 1989 as one of four genre categories introduced that year. In 2007, when the MTV Video Music Award was restructured, the category was removed. When the original system was reverted to in 2008, they weren't brought back. Videos from the rap genre can be found under Best Hip-Hop Video today.
The big winners of the award were Will Smith (one of them as part of the DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince duo ), Arrested Development , Dr. Dre and Jay-Z , who each won the award twice.
