Black Rob

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Black Rob (* 12. July 1969 in Buffalo , New York as Robert Ross ; † 17th April 2021 in Atlanta , Georgia ) was an American rapper .

Life

Ross grew up in Harlem and began rapping when he was eleven or twelve. Musically he was influenced by Spoonie Gee , Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick, among others . At 22, he formed his first rap group, The Schizophrenics, but they did not release any music. At that time he was known under the pseudonym "Bacardi Rob".

In 1996 he made contact to the label Bad Boy of Sean Combs . His first release was a guest appearance on a remix of the song Come See Me by 112 . He then had other guest appearances, including on Totals What About Us, Faith Evans' Love Like This , Mases 24 Hrs. to Live and on albums by Puff Daddy & the Bad Boy Family and The Notorious BIG .

In 2000 his debut single Whoa! which was produced by Buckwild . With a chart placement at number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 , it became his greatest success. His debut album Life Story followed in the same year , on which Puff Daddy, Lil 'Kim and Jennifer Lopez were among the guests. In the United States, it was awarded platinum by the RIAA .

Subsequently, he was still represented on publications by P. Diddy, as Combs called himself at the time, and G. Dep , but could not land another hit single as a solo artist. With his features on Bad Boy for Life and Let's Get It , however, he celebrated two more single chart placements alongside P. Diddy.

In 2005, his second solo album, The Black Rob Report , was released, which reached number 40 on the Billboard 200, but was also unable to build on the previous successes.

In 2006 Black Rob was arrested and sentenced to seven years in prison. Back in 2004, he was sentenced to two to six years in prison on charges of aggravated theft after pleading guilty to having in his possession a hotel theft worth $ 6,000. He was detained because he was not responsible for a new trial to determine the final sentence. He was fired in May 2010 and interviewed by hip-hop magazine BET just two hours later .

After his stay in prison, the business relationship with Fr. Diddy finally broke up. With Duck Down he found a new label, where his third album Game Tested, Streets Approved was released in 2011 .

In 2015 he took part in a season of the reality series Come Back Kings starring Ed Lover, Calvin Richardson, David “Davinch” Chance (Ruff Endz), Jeff Sanders, Jameio, Mr. Cheeks and Horace Brown. In the same year his fourth album Genuine Article was released .

He died of kidney failure on April 17, 2021 at the age of 51 .
