3rd bass

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

3rd Bass are among the pioneers of hip-hop music and are best known as one of the first white bands in the rap business. Together with the Beastie Boys, they gave white hip-hop the popularity of the hip-hop scene.

history

The founding members of 3rd Bass were MC Serch (Michael Berrin), Pete Nice (Pete Nash) and DJ Richie Rich (Richard Lawson), with Richie Rich being the only African American in the band. Pete Nice was a college student at Columbia University and had his own hip-hop show on college radio. MC Serch appeared as a rapper in clubs and at parties and had released his own single Hey Boy on the independent label Idlers. The producer Sam Sever brought the members together in 1987 and produced with them their first successful album The Cactus Album (Label: Def Jam ). Cactus Revisited followed in 1990 .

In 1991 the last album Derelicts of Dialect came out with guest appearances by KMD, Chubb Rock, and Nice & Smooth. In the song Pop Goes the Weasel on this album there was also slightly malicious mockery of the then successful white rapper Vanilla Ice , who became the band's biggest chart success . 3rd Bass cemented its claim to be firmly rooted in hip-hop as a white band, while Vanilla Ice was exposed as a "cheat".

MC Serch started a solo career in 1992 with Return of the Product , in which the then relatively unknown Nas had a guest appearance on a piece alongside other rappers. Nice and Rich merged to form Prime Minister Pete Nice & DJ Daddy Rich and released Dust to Dust in 1993 . Both albums were less successful than the previous releases by 3rd Bass, but at least MC Serch's Return of the Product reached number 28 on the Billboard Top R & B / Hip-Hop Albums chart. Prime Minister Pete Nice and Rich landed at # 50 on the Billboard Top R&B / Hip-Hop Albums chart with their album Dust to Dust .

In 1998 3rd Bass reunited and the single Hail To The Chief was released in 2000 . They are currently working on a new album. Prime Minister Pete Nice published three books dealing with baseball legends from 2003 to 2006.
