Digital underground
Digital Underground was an American hip-hop band that is classified as alternative hip-hop .
Its members came from Oakland , California and were best known for their fancy costumes and shows as well as the humorous lyrics.
Career
In 1987 the band was founded as a duo by Shock G and Chopmaster J, who together recorded the single Underwater Rimes , which was a hit especially in the Netherlands and took first place in the charts. In 1989 they signed a record deal with the record label Tommy Boy Entertainment and in the same year they released the underground hit Doowutchyalike . At this point the band had expanded to include DJ Fuze, Money-B and Schmoovy-Schmoov. In 1990 they released the debut album Sex Packets with the hit single The Humpty Dance , to which Shock G slipped into the role of "Humpty Hump". The single reached eleventh place on the US Billboard charts, the album went platinum .
In 1991 the album This Is An EP Release followed , on which Tupac Shakur also participated. Like the following album, Sons Of The P (1991), it could not build on the success of the first album, although the single Kiss You Back brought gold. The "Body-Hat" Syndrome (1993), Future Rhythm (1996), Who Got The Gravy? (1998) and The Lost Files (1999), which were recorded on various record labels, sold even worse.
In 2004 Shock G released a solo album entitled Fear Of A Mixed Planet . In 2008, after almost 20 years of tournament, Shock G announced that the group would officially split at the end of 2008. The record ..cuz a you party don't stop! should be the last studio shot.
