Ying Yang Twins (2007)

The Ying Yang Twins are an American southern rap duo. It was founded by the two rappers Kaine (namely Eric Jackson, born on December 16, 1978 ) and D-Roc (namely D'Angelo Holmes, born on February 13, 1979 ) in Atlanta . Contrary to the meaning of the band name, the two are not related to each other.

history

1996 D-Roc had a record deal as a solo artist in the label Ichiban Records . D-Roc finally met Kaine through mutual friends. In 1997, the two then recorded the song Tru Dawg under the artist name D-Roc & 2-Time Click . The following year, producer DJ Smurf , also known as Mr. Collipark, was supposed to remix a piece by D-Roc . D-Roc brought Kaine to the recording studio for the recording work . DJ Smurf suggested that the two rappers form a group and put a song by them on his album Dead Crunk . It was released in 1998 and contained the duo's first professional release, One on One . In the same year the Ying Yang Twins were represented with True City Thugs on the compilation So So Def Bass All-Stars, Volume 3 . The song was especially those based in Atlanta Strip - bars enjoyed playing.

In the same milieu, the single Whistle While You Twurk was also well received in 2000 . From there, the music spread to the radios and reached number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 . However, the rights holders of the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs , on whose soundtrack the song Whistle While You Work was included, a subsequent change to the sexually explicit text.

DJ Smurf had meanwhile founded his own label, ColliPark Records. The debut longplayer of the Ying Yang Twins, Thug Walkin ' , which belongs to the single, was released . The work has sold more than 100,000 times independently . Through this success, the major label Universal Music Group became aware and issued a re-release . However, their sales figures were disappointing.

The Ying Yang Twins therefore remained on an independent label and released their second album Alley: The Return of the Ying Yang Twins on Koch Records in 2002 . With the help of the single Say I Yi Yi , which reached number 56 on the US hit parade, the duo was listed on the Billboard 200 (position 58) for the first time . Overall, the long player sold even better than the debut; more than 400,000 copies were sold.

The group began to work more closely with Lil Jon . This resulted in the piece Salt Shaker , which became a top 10 hit in the USA and led to them being signed to TVT Records , the label that also released Lil Jon's music. The third album Me & My Brother , which was released in 2003, was awarded the RIAA's platinum record for more than one million units sold . In 2004, the remix album My Brother & Me followed , which entered the US album charts at number 12, but was much shorter than its predecessor and therefore sold less well.

In 2005 the duo's next regular work came out. USA (United State of Atlanta) was ranked 2nd on the Billboard 200, the best chart position in the rappers' career and again brought them a platinum record. The best-known single from it was Wait (The Whisper Song) . The piece was rapped completely in a whisper and reached position 15 on the Hot 100. As before, this album was remixed and released as USA - Still United . However, only the 45th position on the sales list could be achieved.

The next full- length player with completely newly recorded music, Chemically Imbalanced from 2006, was unable to build on the previous sales successes, but still reached number 40 on the Billboard 200. The 2008 album The Official Work , on the other hand, was only featured in two charts on the Billboard Magazine , while Ying Yang Forever no longer gained commercial importance from 2009.
