MTV Video Music Awards / Best Choreography
The MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography is one of the technical categories. It is one of the few awards that have been given continuously since 1984. From 1984 to 2006 it was called Best Choreography in a Video .
As with all technical categories, in this case too the artist, the artist's manager and the actual performer, in this case the video's choreographer, are recognized.
Frank Gatson holds the record with six prizes, closely followed by Michael Rooney with five wins, and Gatson was also the front runner in the nomination list with eleven nominations. Among the artists, Janet Jackson and Beyoncé were victorious with four awards each. Madonna was nominated the most frequently with twelve nominations.
Eight artists who won the award were also choreographers of the videos, namely Michael Jackson (for Thriller ), Prince (for Rasberry Beret ), Paula Abdul (for Straight Up ), Madonna (for Ray of Light ), Janet Jackson (for Rhythm Nation ), Shakira (for Hips Don't Lie ). Bruno Mars (for Treasure ) and OK Go (for I Won't Let You Down ).
Christopher Walken won the award for his dance appearance in Fatboy Slim's video for Weapon of Choice and Spike Jonze also won the award for a dance in a video by Fatboy Slim, in this case Praise You .
