Solange Piaget Knowles (born June 24, 1986 in Houston , Texas ), stage name Solange , is an American actress , singer , songwriter and music producer .

Life

Solange Knowles was born in Houston in 1986 to Mathew and Tina Knowles. She is the younger sister of the singer and actress Beyoncé .

In February 2004 she married Daniel Smith. Their son was born in October 2004. In October 2007, they announced their divorce. In November 2014, she married video producer Alan Ferguson in New Orleans . In November 2019, she announced the separation.

Musical career

After signing a record deal with Columbia Records , Knowles released her debut single Feelin You in 2002 , a collaboration with rapper NORE in early 2003, followed by the album Solo Star , to which Jermaine Dupri , The Neptunes , Linda Perry , Timbaland and her sister Beyoncé contributed songs. Knowles has worked as a songwriter for Destiny's Child , Kelly Rowland , Michelle Williams , Beyoncé and Trin-I-Tee 5: 7. She also contributed two songs to Destiny's Child's Christmas album 8 Days of Christmas . In 2007 Knowles was seen in the video for Beyoncé's song Get Me Bodied with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

In August 2008, Knowles' second album SoL-AngeL and the Hadley St. Dreams was released in the United States . The first single was I Decided . In September 2008 the album was also released in Germany. Knowles started working on her third album in late 2011. The first single from the album, entitled Losing You , was released in October in the United States. The EP True was released in late November 2012. It was created in collaboration with Dev Hynes. The album A Seat at the Table was released in September 2016. For her song Cranes in the Sky , she received the award for best R&B performance at the 2017 Grammy Awards .

Acting career

She got into acting through a casting in 2002 and got a supporting role on the Nickelodeon sitcom Taina . In 2004 another guest role followed in the UPN sitcom One On One in the episode The Catch . That same year she received her first lead role in the comedy Johnson Family Vacation .
