Johnson Family Vacation (Original title: Johnson Family Vacation ) is an American comedy film of Christopher Erskine from the year 2004 with comedian Cedric the Entertainer and rapper Bow Wow .

action

In Los Angeles living Nate Johnson is very successful as an insurance broker, but in his marriage undergoes a crisis for a while. Thereupon the couple separated temporarily; two daughters live with Dorothy while the son DJ lives with his father. Now is the traditional family reunion in Missouri , at Nate's mother Glorietta, which is very important to him, because he is competing with his brother for the family of the year . He has rented a large family car especially for the trip and hopes it will make an impression on his brother.

Dorothy only comes with me because she wants to be with her children. For their sake, she tries to maintain the image of the whole family. But even on the journey, things are anything but harmonious. Nate listens to music in the car that none of the three children want to hear and, out of sheer frustration, when a nursery rhyme “has to” be put in for Destiny, Nate grabs a truck . This presses the family car and half of the luggage is lost during evasive maneuvers. The family stops at a motel to spend the night and Nate actually plans to finally spoil his wife again. But that goes completely wrong. The next day, Nate can't improve the relationship between them that much either, because he takes a pretty young hitchhiker with him, which Dorothy doesn't find particularly great. In the evening, Nate has to prove himself to be the protector of his family when an aligator appears in the hotel room during the next overnight stop. On the next day, Nate was subjected to a speed control and was even locked up for improper behavior. That should last for the whole weekend, but thanks to Dorothy's commitment, they can continue on the same day.

Once in Missouri, Nate's bad luck continues, because he forgot to fill up and the car stops on a lonely country road. Since his cell phone battery is also empty, he has to walk to the nearest public telephone. He leaves his family in the car, where Uncle Earl turns up and tries to help. In the process, he ruins half the car, but in the end drags it to its destination. As soon as Nate meets his brother Mack, the two have a verbal exchange of blows. There is a race over an obstacle course for the children, followed by a water bomb throwing and sack race for the men. After a dance performance by Mack's family that seems to get them in the lead, but Nate's people not only dance, they also sing perfectly and the DJ can show off his rapper qualities. So Nate actually manages to win the title and the trophy. Now he realizes that he doesn't need a trophy to know that he has a great family and he gives Mack the trophy.

Although Nate tried so hard to play the perfect world for his mother, it turns out that he and Dorothy live separately, even if this is only planned for three months. But Nate is convinced that this is now over, because he explains here in front of his whole family that he has found in Dorothy the best wife and mother of his children that one could only wish for. With the car that Uncle Earl had repaired in a rather futuristic way, Nate and his family return to Los Angeles.
