Sampha Lahai Sisay (* 1988 in London ) is a British musician.

Career

Sampha Sisay is from Morden in southwest London . His parents, who belong to the Limba people , came from Sierra Leone in the early 1980s . He grew up as the youngest of five children. When he was nine, his father died of cancer. Sampha started early to play the piano and also to write her own songs. He later served the grime rappers in his area and made the production for his friend's rap songs. He first became aware of him through a remix of The xx's Basic Space song in 2009. He also received a lot of recognition two years later when he was not only a producer, but also a singer and songwriter on the critically acclaimed SBTRKT debut album participated. Singer Jessie Ware was another Londoner he worked with. At the same time he released his first own, purely instrumental EP, Sundanza .

In 2013, Sampha was invited by the Canadian rapper Drake to appear on his album Nothing Was the Same . The common song Too Much was released as a single and hit the UK and US charts . The Motion , which was produced as a bonus song, also reached a top 100 ranking. He then released his second EP Dual and was voted number 4 on Sound of 2014 , the BBC's prediction for the breakthrough in the coming year. But there was in this and next year no debut album and first of all there are no other publications, but he continued to work with other musicians like SBTRKT and Katy B together. In 2016 he was featured on albums by Kanye West and Frank Ocean . The song Do not Touch My Hair from the album A Seat at the Table of Solange Knowles took him for the second time as a guest singer in the US charts.

At the end of the year he then presented two songs in anticipation of his debut album. The album Process was released internationally in early February 2017 . In Great Britain it rose to number 7 and also made it into the charts in the USA and Australia and other countries in Europe. The album won the 2017 Mercury Prize .
