Katy B (born May 8, 1989 ; actually Kathleen Anne Brien ) is a British singer-songwriter and music producer .

Life

Kathleen Brien aka Katy B grew up in Peckham, a district of the London Borough of Southwark . She received her musical training at the famous BRIT School , where she sat in a class with, among others, the young British dubstep artist James Blake . She graduated in popular music at Goldsmiths College . In 2007 she worked as 'Baby Katy' on DJ NG's Tell Me production , which was initially released on a white label and later on Ministry of Sound . Together with Geeneus a cover version of the song Good Life originally produced by Kevin Saunderson was created . Her debut single Katy on a Mission appeared on his record label Rinse in August 2010 . She is also on the debut album of the DJ duo The Count & Sinden ( Mega Mega Mega , 2010) with the song Hold Me . She also gave her voice to the second single Perfect Stranger by the group Magnetic Man , released in October 2010 (the song appeared on the album Magnetic Man of the same name , where she can also be heard on the track "Crossover"). Before their album was finally released, the second single Lights On was released , a collaboration with the London singer Ms. Dynamite . She gave her first concert in Germany at the Melt! Festival 2011.

music

Musically, she moves in the genres of hip-hop , dubstep , drum and bass , R&B , funk , house and garage . She also appears with the hip-hop band The Illersapiens , among others . Her debut album On a Mission was released on April 4, 2012 and reached second place on the UK album charts. In 2012 she won an NME Award in the Best Dancefloor Anthem category for her song Broken Record .

She was involved in Mark Ronson's song Anywhere in the World , which serves as a song for the 2012 Summer Olympics and also contains elements of Coca-Cola. On December 7, 2012, she released the four-track EP Danger for free download on her website.

On July 5, 2013, her single What Love Is Made Of was also released in Germany . On March 4, 2016, the album Honey was released in Germany , which was named album of the week by Musikexpress magazine .
