Roland Hennig

Roland Hennig (born December 19, 1967 in Hoyerswerda ) is a former German cyclist .

Roland Hennig started for SC Cottbus and was looked after by trainer Heiko Salzwedel . His specialty was team pursuit . In this discipline he was GDR champion twice, in 1986 and 1987, each with Dirk Meier , Steffen Blochwitz and Thomas Will . In the same years he took second place with the GDR's four-man track at the UCI track world championships , 1986 with Meier, Blochwitz and Bernd Dittert , and 1987 with Blochwitz, Meier and Carsten Wolf .

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , Hennig won the silver medal with the GDR foursome, along with Wolf, Blochwitz and Meier. For this success he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver. He also received this medal in 1986.

Professional

Hennig completed an apprenticeship as a vehicle fitter.

  1. The GDR team was initially declared the winner, but after a protest by the Czech team, due to the decision of the jury, they were placed in second place with 3: 2 votes with a 2/1000 second gap.
