Taina is an American comedy series broadcast by Nickelodeon television . It revolves around Taina and her friends who go to Manhattan High School of the Performing Arts and try to achieve their dreams and find themselves in funny situations.

  • Taina Morales ( Christina Vidal ) is of Puerto Rican descent and attends Manhattan High School of the Performing Arts. She has the dream of one day becoming a singer or actress.
  • Renee Jones ( Khaliah Adams ) is Taina's best friend planning a career as a comedian.
  • Lamar Johnson ( Chris Knowings ) is attending school to become a journalist. He works for the school newspaper and is in love with Taina.
  • Daniel McDaniel ( David Oliver Cohen ) is Lamar's best friend. He wants to become a musician and plays several instruments. Taina shares a locker with him.
  • Maritza Hogg ( LaTangela Newsome ) is Taina's arch-rival, who also wants to become a singer and dancer.

Furthermore, a number of recurring minor characters belong to the ensemble of the series. This includes Taina's family consisting of her mother Gloria ( Lisa Velez ), her father Eduardo (Josh Cruze) and her little brother Santito (Brandon Iglesias in season 1, Jacob Urrutia in season 2).

Production and broadcast

Production of the show began in 2000 as one of the last shows at Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando , Florida. The broadcast began on January 14, 2001 on Nickelodeon , and in the following weeks, the number of viewers increased. The second season was filmed at Nickelodeon on Sunset in Hollywood . After the second season, the series was discontinued. Taina was not broadcast in Germany .

reception

In 2002 Tania received an ALMA Award for Best Children's TV Show. Christina Vidal was also nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series and Fracaswell Hyman & Maria Perez-Brown for Best Script in a Drama or Comedy Series for the episode Quinceanero .
