How to Rock is an American youth - sitcom that the everyday life of the singer told and student Kacey Simon. The series was developed by David M. Israel and Jim O'Doherty . The first episode aired on February 4, 2012 on the US television station Nickelodeon . The German-language first broadcast was planned for October 7, 2012 at Nickelodeon Germany , but has been postponed repeatedly for unknown reasons. It has been broadcast in German-speaking countries since October 1, 2014 in the Nicknight program block .

The series is about a popular girl named Kacey Simon. Since having to wear braces and glasses , some girls insulted her because of her appearance. However, Kacey finds a new way to express her feelings, namely through music. She becomes the lead singer of the pop / hip-hop band Gravity 5, which also includes Zander, Stevie, Nelson and Kevin. Little by little, a competition develops between Gravity 5 and The Perfs, a band in which their former best friends Molly and Grace also play.

The series is based on the How to Rock Braces and Glasses book series written by Meg Haston . On May 23, 2011, the broadcaster ordered the first season with a total of 20 episodes. In May 2012, Nickelodeon ordered six more episodes for the first season. Filming began in August 2011. The first trailer for the series aired on December 10, 2011 on Nickelodeon during a rerun of the film Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh .

On August 26, 2012, Nickelodeon announced that the series would be discontinued after a season. The final episode, How To Rock Christmas , aired on December 8, 2012.

Kacey Simon is the most popular girl in school and she thinks she is perfect. That's why she founded the "Perfs" with her friends Molly and Grace. However, when Kacey comes to school one day with glasses and braces and is no longer perfect, she realizes that her friends are not really friends at all. She finds solace in "Gravity Four", a band made up of four classmates, each of whom is quite strange in its own way. Together with them she is preparing for a band competition in which she wants to beat the "Perfs". When Molly realizes that she has a good chance of winning, she tries to bring Kacey back to the "Perfs", which initially seems to be crowned with success. But when Kacey realizes that she should hide her face during the performance, she decides against the "Perfs". On the evening of the performance, Kacey has got rid of glasses and braces, leaves the "Perfs" for good and rocks the stage with "Gravity Four". Since they now have a new member, they rename themselves to "Gravity Five".

An art competition is held at the school. Zander is making a statue of Kacey for this. Molly also wants to take part in the competition with a picture that she did not paint herself. To prevent Molly from winning the competition, Kacey eventually makes herself a statue. In the end, she is discovered and reveals Molly's deception. Molly and Zander will both be disqualified. Finally there is a big surprise, because when two people argue, the third is happy.

Kacey runs for student representative to prevent Molly from winning the election. In order to get the school's nerds on their side, she asks Kevin to also stand for election, to retire shortly before the start of the election and to suggest to his supporters to vote for Kacey. In a discussion, however, she promises her classmates an appearance by "Big Time Rush". Desperate, she tries to convince the band to perform, but initially doesn't succeed. Kacey realizes that Kevin no longer wants to withdraw his candidacy. During the election, she takes herself out of the running and encourages classmates to vote for Kevin, who wins the election over Molly. "Big Time Rush" now decides to appear at Kacey's school, and so they appear at the election victory party for school representative Kevin.

Stevie is given the responsibility of producing the school news. She assigns everyone their tasks. Kacey envy Molly her job as an investigative reporter and works on Stevie until she can prove herself in that position. She reports on a supposedly highly dangerous fungus at the school, which turns out to be a big mistake. But the chaos at the school that she started with can no longer be stopped.

But Stevie realizes that both Molly and Kacey wanted to take advantage of them and hits them both with their own weapons.

In order to see Cee Lo anyway, they dress up as catering staff and so, after fleeing from the security service, Gravity 5 lands on the stage and spontaneously appears in front of all the concert-goers. Since Cee Lo likes the performance, he offers Kacey to go on tour with him in his ensemble. She is now faced with the difficult decision to come with Cee Lo or to stay with her friends.

Stevie wants Kacey to send her crush in a singing telegram to ask if he would like to go to the school ball with Stevie. Unfortunately, he sees it as an invitation from Kacey and accepts.

Contrary to what the class imagined, the class trip goes camping in the wilderness. Molly and Kacey are not at all enthusiastic, while Grace is happy because she used to go camping with her grandpa. When they are divided into groups to prove which group can survive best in the wilderness, Kacey sees herself as a sure loser, as she ends up in a group with Molly and Grace and the other group members don't give much hope either. But in the end it is surprising Grace with her experience, who not only rocks the task, but also keeps a cool head and saves the situation in great need.
