School of Rock is an American youth - sitcom , which is about a couple of music-loving teenagers who live out their passion for music with a "wrong" substitute teacher. However, the school management is not allowed to learn anything about the teenagers' passion for rock music. Because of this, teenagers around 12 often end up in tricky situations.
The series was ordered by Nickelodeon in August 2014. It is based on the film School of Rock , but the cast is different. It premiered on March 12, 2016 on Nickelodeon . The series has been broadcast in Germany since September 12, 2016 . A second season debuted on September 17, 2016. Since the series was very well received, the producers decided to produce a third season, which has aired in America since July 8, 2017. In November 2017, Nickelodeon announced the discontinuation of the series after the third season.

Rock musician and ice cream seller Dewey Finn takes a job as a substitute teacher at a middle school in Austin , even though he is not trained. After seeing the students taking classical music lessons, he equips them with modern instruments from a rock band and musically explains a poem by William Shakespeare to them . The class then realizes that Mr. Finn is not a “real” teacher, but does not reveal him because they want to become a real rock band with him and subsequently want to win the band competition “Battle of the Bands”. Since the rector is not allowed to hear about it, the rehearsals take place in secret. The hurdles leading up to the competition are described below: Finding the right singer and band name, making a preselection, collecting the entry fee and internal arguments. In the end they make it to the competition as a band called “School of Rock”, but are locked out on the roof by the competitors “Night Lizards”, who previously stole the song from you, when they quickly rehearse a new song. Although they cannot appear on stage in time, “School of Rock” wins the competition with a cover version of “Shut Up + Dance” by Walk the Moon , because the jury hears and evaluates their performance on the roof.

Tomika is a 12 year old girl and Summer's best friend. She is the band leader and plays the electric bass.
Summer is a 12 year old girl and Tomika's best friend. She plays the tambourine and is in love with Freddy, although Freddy does not notice it. She tries herself as a songwriter, but has no success. Eventually she finds her qualities as the band's manager.
Freddy is a 12 year old boy and the most popular in the class. He plays the drums.
Zack is a 12-year-old boy of Chinese descent and often hangs out with Freddy and Lawrence. He plays the electric guitar. His father is very strict and wants him to only play classical guitar. He's Lawrence's best friend.
Lawrence is a 12-year-old boy with glasses who is friends with Freddy and Zack. He's the smartest guy in the class and plays the keyboard. When he's nervous, he says some crazy things. He's Zack's best friend.
Mr. Finn is the cool teacher in the class, but not really a teacher at all. He has already had several failed band projects and plays the electric guitar. With Tomika, Summer, Freddy, Zack and Lawrence he would like to be the best band in the “Battle of the Bands”. From season 2 he is now officially the permanent teacher of Tomika, Summer, Freddy, Lawrence and Zack.
Mrs. Mullins is the principal of the school and doesn't know that Mr. Finn isn't a real teacher.
Justin is the singer and the leader of the Night Lizard . He challenged Mr. Finn's band to see who is the best band.
Mrs. Calpakis is the actual teacher of the class. After breaking her hip while skateboarding, Mr. Finn took over her job. In the 2nd season she returns. But as a result of changes , she now teaches the other class.
Clark O'Shannon is a student at the school. He's the school hall supervisor and Mrs. Mullin's right-hand man.
