Power Rangers Samurai is an American action series based on the 33rd " Super Sentai " series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger . It is the 18th season of the Power Rangers series and the first series to be produced by Haim Saban's new company, Saban Brands . It was continued in the 19th season of Power Rangers Super Samurai .

Centuries ago in Japan the universe was threatened by a dark force that could only be put to flight by a clan of warriors. This darkness has now returned and wants to flood the earth with the help of a dark sea. Five normal teenagers were chosen to face the darkness; to achieve this goal, they were given the power of five mystical Japanese symbols to transform themselves into the Samurai Rangers.

In May 2010 it was announced that Haim Saban had bought back the Power Rangers franchise from Disney and was planning a new series to air on Nickelodeon in 2011.
