action

The Saunders family moves from Los Angeles to Edmonton . Since the mother missed the plane to the new home, the father and the three children have to take care of the Christmas shopping alone. So they go on a shopping tour in the city's large shopping center. Danny, the oldest child, is supposed to take care of his two siblings Brian and Mary, while their father wants to get the Christmas tree. But Danny has better plans and goes his own way. He's in the middle of puberty and only has eyes for the girls. On their own, Brian and Mary explore the huge department store, which also offers many leisure activities. You can go swimming there, explore a large pirate ship, ride a carousel or go ice skating. Just as Mary is out on the ice, a bag of money falls at her feet. She is of the opinion that Santa Claus wanted to fulfill her Christmas wish with it. But the bag has been lost by two petty criminals who want to take advantage of the Christmas hustle and bustle to bring counterfeit money into circulation and want to exchange the wrong big bills for real smaller ones for small purchases. Brian wants to give the money to the police and earn the finder's fee, but Mary persuades him to buy a few things first.

The attentive security service notices that counterfeit money has just been put into circulation and can quickly identify the two children. However, one considers the father to be the "head of the gang" who draws his children into his business. Without further ado, he and Danny are arrested and taken to the police station. The crooks are now after Brian and Mary and are trying to get their flowers back. This starts a chase through the whole store for the two of them. In one of the many shops the children equip themselves almost militarily in order to be armed against their pursuers. Brian and Mary lure the crooks to the police, who can now arrest the gang. Wayne Saunders and his son Danny are allowed to leave and the family is reunited.

Without knowing it, the Saunders met the real Santa Claus in different guises several times and thus helped them to fulfill their very different wishes. So Wayne surprisingly gets a new job, Danny finds a girlfriend and forgets his homesickness, Brian and Mary have already organized a lot of Christmas gifts in the department store and Judy Saunders finally manages to get a flight and be home in time for Christmas. Surprisingly for everyone they find a completely tidy house on Christmas morning and a beautiful Christmas tree with countless gifts underneath.

criticism

At kino.de it says: “To sit in what is probably the largest department store in the world and just throw money around there is a universal dream of children big and small, which is why it only seems logical when this routine family comedy […] said that Motif merged with the wonders of Christmas and an action-packed gangster-versus-children chase à la 'Kevin at home alone' mixed in.
