Genie in the House is a British sitcom that hasairedon the children'schannel Nickelodeon since June 1, 2008. The original concept of the series is based on a French-English co-production.
action
When the single father Philip Norton moves into an old house with his daughters Emma and Sophie, the two girls find an old lamp in the attic from which they accidentally free the genie Adil. Adil is only a Djinn apprentice and therefore his spells mostly fail. For this reason, father Philip issues a strict ban on magic and wishes, which of course his daughters do not adhere to. Adil's mistakes, big and small, always lead to confusion. So it happens, for example, that goldfish learn to sing, the Mona Lisa and the museum wall suddenly appear in the living room or ancestors from the Stone Age suddenly sit in the kitchen.
Locations
The main location of the series is the Nortons residence. The living room, the kitchen and the room of Emma and Sophie are used most often, sometimes also Philips' office and the garden. In the third season there is a dollhouse version of the house in the episode "Our House". In the second season there was some renovation work in the house. For example, in season one there was a kind of closet under the stairs, which in season two became a passage into the garden. To the left of the kitchen door there is another door that also leads to the kitchen and the garden.
- Other places
- The town or suburb where the Nortons live is called North Southport
- School: The school Emma and Sophie attend is North Southport High School.
- Balamkadaar: The home of Adil. In the episodes "Kings and Camels Part 1–3" the Norton house is teleported to Balamkadaar.
- Juice bar "Crush": Sophie and Emma work there in the newer seasons.
- An unknown theater in which Max re-enacts Hamlet in the episode Maxie goes to Hollywood.
main characters
- Adil, the genie in a bottle
- Adil was born on the outskirts of the fictional city of Balamkadaar in the 6th century. In human years he is 15 years old, in genius years 1500. His father was also a genie and his mother was a teacher of the dance of the seven veils . His parents sent him to a genie school, in which he did not turn out to be a great talent. On a test of courage , he climbed into a lamp and unintentionally locked himself in. At that very moment, the school was attacked by the 40 robbers who took the lamp. Adil was forgotten in Ali Baba's cave and passed from hand to hand to the attic of the Norton house.
- Adil is very proud to be a Djinn and always willing to be of service to his new masters. He is often overzealous and fails because of his inadequate training. For outsiders and visitors, he is considered a French exchange student. He almost always wears his genie costume: red pointed shoes , red harem pants, red waistcoat and a red turban .
- In the third season, Emma accidentally wishes that Adil was no longer a genie, so he granted this wish. He then wears normal clothes and goes to school with Emma and Sophie. The only relatives of Adil that have already appeared are his mother Djamila (episode: "Dearest Mother") and his little brother Junior (episode: "The Quälgeist"). He has another brother named Arib, whom he only mentions on the website www.genieinthehouse.com.
- Philip Norton
- Philip Norton is a successful and talented product designer who is constantly stressed with his boss Max about deadlines. Besides, he has to deal with two pubescent teenage girls and an overzealous genius. He passed the ban on wishes and magic because the girls shouldn't get used to the fact that you get things without working for them. Despite all the chaos, he loves Adil like the son he never had.
- Sophie Norton
- 16 year old Sophie is very interested in the background of the world and loves physics, chemistry, history and mathematics. She would love to go to university and study as many subjects and languages as possible. With all the work for school, she doesn't make time for love. She fascinates Adil because he represents something new, undiscovered and unexplored. However, Sophie is not the purest innocent angel either, because she is also tempted to express wishes, which Philip has strictly forbidden.
- Emma Norton
- In contrast to her sister, 15-year-old Emma is bored at school because she considers it unimportant, although she is by no means stupid. She prefers to spend her time with her friends, at parties or rearranging the house, but she, too, breaks the ban on wishes and magic. She is very talented in the fashion world and dreams of working for a well-known fashion label one day and bringing out her own collection.
- Max Baxter
- Philips boss and the uncle of Emma and Sophie. The name of all of Philip's work and designs start with Max Baxter. In one episode he becomes master of Adil, in another he moves in with the Nortons because he has separated from his wife. He has a niece named Louise (episode: "Pony Tale") and a nephew named Sam (episode: "Our House").
- Caroline Smart
- The Nortons' neighbor is an elementary school teacher and about the same age as Philip. She usually comes in the door without knocking. Caroline has no sense of clothes, which is why she asks Emma one episode to make her make up for her blind date. She has no idea that Adil is a ghost, but she finds out in an episode from Emma. In the second season she meets someone, the two marry and move to France.
- Annabelle Scott
- She is Emma's rival in school and her rival in fashion. Annabelle has a rich father who always buys her everything, such as: B. a rapping cockatoo for biology class. In one episode, she pretends to be in love with Adil, only to get Emma's design for a fashion competition. She also finds out that Adil is a ghost. However, she is observed by Sophie through an unsuccessful wish and her memory is erased.
- Peggy
- She is the Nortons' neighbor after Caroline moved to France. Peggy is very curious and sometimes anything but friendly. In the episode "Junior Genie" she learns that Adil and his brother are ghosts and becomes Juniors new master. Since she is a journalist for a suburban magazine, she tries to get the story with the genie in a bottle out as an article, but is put off by the Nortons and Adil erases her memories.
- Abdab
- Abdab is a ghost. He wanted to get rid of Adil, but was unfortunately arrested. He came back, but was caught in a ball by Adil and promoted into space.
- Clive Collins
- He is Sophie's boyfriend and has only been there since the second season. Clive lives right across the street and often comes over to finish some project with Sophie. He loves Sophie but is too shy to confess his love to her. In the episode "Say it with a song", he confesses his love to Sophie, but can't remember afterwards when the wish passed. He has a cousin named Kara who comes to visit in Season 3 and Sophie thinks she is his girlfriend.
