action

The six rangers begin to demonstrate their sky diving skills in a competition to save the threatened Angel Grove observatory. Bulk and Skull, the two clumsy guys, land instead of in the target area in a construction pit in which an ancient chamber has just been uncovered, in which there is a purple, large egg. 6000 years ago the predecessors of the current Power Rangers imprisoned the evil magician Ivan Ooze, feared by the whole universe, in this egg. Zordon, the Rangers' mentor, is deeply concerned and calls the Rangers to bring Ivan's prison back to the depths from which it came. When they teleport to the construction site, it is already too late - Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa, the archenemies of the Power Rangers, have already freed Ivan from his prison. He swears to take revenge on Zordon who locked him up. While Ivan attacks the rangers' command center, they grapple with his slimy henchmen. These can be defeated, but the Power Rangers lose their power when Ivan Ooze destroys the command center and Zordon's time trap, leaving him to die. To save him, Alpha 5, Zordon's loyal robot helper, teleports the teenagers to the distant planet Phaedos to find the ultimate power.

Once on the planet, they are attacked by Ivan's winged Tengu warriors, but rescued by a mysterious Amazon warrior who introduces herself to them as Dulcea, the guardian of the planet. The youngsters tell her about the fate of Zordon and the danger in which the earth hovers and Dulcea decides to help them and to initiate them into the secrets of the ninjetti art. She gives the young people access to the sacred animals of the ninjetti, which they are supposed to support in their search. As the six youngsters on the planet begin their perilous quest, on Earth Ivan Ooze brings the parents of Angel Grove under his control to unearth his two ultimate fighting machines and bring them back to life. When this is done, Ivan orders the parents under his control to jump into their doom.

In their search, the youngsters must first confront a dinosaur skeleton that comes to life and attacks them. The chamber in which the great power lies is then guarded by four stone monsters, which also come to life and attack the Rangers. But together they can defeat the guardians and finally gain access to the new power. Armed with the new powers, the Power Rangers return to Earth to save her. Faced with the destruction wrought by Ivan's fighting machines, they call on their zords (huge, animal-like creatures) to help and destroy one of the fighting machines. Angry about this, Ivan takes control of the remaining robot and grows to gigantic size. The Power Rangers then form the Megazord by connecting their Zords together. As they fly into space to defeat Ivan, the children of Angel Grove, led by 11-year-old Fred, try to keep their parents from jumping into their doom.

In space, Billy has the idea of luring Ivan into the orbit of a comet in order to destroy him. So you fly with your Megazord to the predicted orbit of the comet. Ivan follows them and attacks. As the comet gets closer and closer, the Rangers try to free their robot from the monster's grip, which they succeed when Aisha pushes a red button that says “Emergency only” and the megazord pushes his knee into Ivans Step rams. This then flies into the orbit of the comet and is destroyed in a large fireball. At the same time, the spell on Angel Grove's parents is broken.

When the rangers teleport back to the command center, despite the victory over Ivan, everything seems too late, Zordon is dead. But then they remember what Dulcea taught them - that for those who have the great power, anything is possible. So the Power Rangers join forces to bring Zordon back to life and restore the command center.

At the end, everyone celebrates the victory of the Power Rangers over evil under a large fireworks display.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films described the film as an “inconsequential fantasy fairy tale” that “tries to stimulate purchase and consumption”. The characters are "one-dimensional".

As with the series, the excessive use of force is criticized by many. In addition, Haim Saban did not hire actors who were organized in the Screen Actors Guild , but rather tied unknown young actors to the series with “gag contracts”.

Despite the mostly devastating reviews (no talent from the actors, bad story, counted as one of the 100 worst films in history), the film grossed over 35 million US dollars at the box office .

Awards

Steve Cardenas was nominated for a Young Artist Award in 1996 for his role as Rocky .
