Cee-Lo Green (* 30th May 1975 in Atlanta , Georgia ; actually Thomas DeCarlo Callaway ) is an American hip-hop -, radio -, Soul - and R & B - musician and Grammy award winner.

life and career

Cee-Lo Green received national attention as a member of the hip-hop band Goodie Mob . Between 1995 and 1999 three commercially unsuccessful albums were released. He then started a solo career, and in 2002 his self-produced debut album Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections was released .

In 2004 his second album Cee-Lo Green… Is the Soul Machine was released. With the support of hit producers like Timbaland , Jazze Pha and The Neptunes and guest contributions from Pharrell , TI and Ludacris , it reached number 13 on the Billboard charts .

In 2005, Cee-Lo Green made his breakthrough in Germany and Austria with a guest contribution to the song Aufstehn! the German dancehall band Seeed .

Together with hip-hop producer DJ Danger Mouse , Cee-Lo Green released the highly acclaimed album St. Elsewhere in 2006 under the name Gnarls Barkley , named after the series of the same name , which increased its popularity immensely. The song Crazy was one of the most successful singles of the year and was in the top three of the charts around the world. They won the Best Alternative Music Album category at the 2007 Grammy Awards . On February 17, 2007 , Green performed as a musical guest at a Prince concert . Two years later, the successor, The Odd Couple , was released, again named after the comedy film A Strange Couple .

Cee-Lo Green is also a member of the Atlanta-based Dungeon Family , a hip-hop supergroup that has existed since the early 1990s. In 2001 their only album to date, Even in Darkness , was released, on which Green can be heard in almost half of all songs.

He also appeared repeatedly as a songwriter for other artists. He wrote and produced for Amerie , Kelis , Brandy , Jennifer Hudson and Solange Knowles . In 2005, in collaboration with the Pussycat Dolls and Busta Rhymes, the number one hit Don't Cha was created , for which he sang the background vocals . This he did on another number-one song , Waterfalls by TLC .

He could be heard as guest singer with P. Diddy , Common , Nas , Kelis, Twista , Asher Roth , Everlast , the Black Eyed Peas , Carlos Santana and the German dancehall formation Seeed ( Aufstehn! ). In February 2011, Cee-Lo Green won the BRIT Award for best international artist. As of June 4, 2011 touring Green together with R & B - singer Rihanna by North America in the opening act of her Loud Tour .

On February 5, 2012, he appeared on the Halftime Show of the Super Bowl XLVI with Madonna . In 2012, he spoke as a voice actor Murray the mummy in the original version of the animated horror - comedy Hotel Transylvania .

From January to February 2020, Green took part as a monster in the first season of the UK edition of The Masked Singer , in which he reached fourth place.

Probation

In August 2014, Cee-Lo Green was sentenced to three years and 45 community hours suspended because the court found that he had administered liquid ecstasy to a woman . It could not be proven that he should have raped the victim while he was unconscious. However, Cee-Lo Green subsequently sparked outrage when he spread the opinion on Twitter that it was only a rape if the victim was sensible.
