Big Boi (born February 1, 1975 in Savannah ; real name Antwan André Patton ) is an American rapper and actor . He and André 3000 form the hip-hop duo OutKast and are a member of the Dungeon Family .

He is also known by the pseudonyms Sir Lucious Left Foot , Daddy Fat Sacks , General Patton , Billy Ocean , Francis the Savannah Chitlin Pimp, and Hot Tub Tony .

Career

As a child, Big Boi dreamed of becoming a football player . However, this changed when he came into contact with African American music through his grandmother . As a teenager he moved with his family to Atlanta , where he met André Benjamin in high school , with whom he began rapping. Through their friendship with the producer Rico Wade they were able to record the album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik , which was already relatively successful and went platinum . Big Boi was graduating at the time and became a first-time father shortly afterwards. In order to pursue his music career, he gave up his plan to become a child psychologist and opened the Pittfall Kennels pit bull breed , which is now owned by one of his brothers.

After further commercially very successful albums, OutKast released Speakerboxxx / The Love Below in 2003 , which has sold 11 million copies to date. Big Boi's “solo” album Speakerboxxx , which he co-produced, produced the song “The Way You Move”, which was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for a week after having been second for eight weeks. In March 2004, Big Boi gave the laudatory speech with André 3000 and Alicia Keys for Prince when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame , and that same year he was a guest performer on the Chappelle's Show . A year later he released the compilation album Got Purp? On his newly founded record label Purple Ribbon Records . Vol 2 with artists under contract on the label, mostly members of the Dungeon Family .

With André 3000 he played the leading role in the musical film Idlewild , he was also in the films ATL and Who's Your Caddy? to see. In 2008 Big Boi collaborated with the Atlanta Ballet for the "hip-hop ballet " big , which is based on the performance of some of his songs and other members of Purble Ribbon. Six performances took place from April 10th to 13th in Atlanta, according to Big Boi the concept is to be continued worldwide.

In November 2008 he was in the USA in a double episode of the crime series Law & Order: New York .

After several postponements, the release of Big Boi's first official solo album, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty , was planned for October 2008, but this was again not confirmed. The song "Royal Flush" featuring André 3000 and Raekwon was released on the Internet in March and was nominated at the Grammy Awards 2009 in the category Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group . The first single on the album, however, is "Something's Gotta Give", a duet with Mary J. Blige . Other guests on the album include George Clinton , Too Short , TI and members of the Dungeon Family. It was mainly produced by Organized Noize and Big Boi themselves, as well as Scott Storch and Lil Jon , among others . Big Boi cites the marketing policy of the record label Jive Records as the reason for the numerous postponements . On April 14, 2009 he declared work on the album for officially over. On July 2, 2010, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was released two years late on Def Jam Recordings .

Over the course of his career, Big Boi has worked with numerous internationally successful artists, including Missy Elliott , Jay-Z , Beyoncé , Earth, Wind & Fire , Carlos Santana , Diddy and Chris Brown .
