Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik is the debut album of the rap duo OutKast . He is described on "RapReviews.com" as follows:

"" Southern "for their roots in Atlanta ," playalistic "for a rap style that embodied the vibrant flair of 70's soul , and" cadillac "for the perfect car to cruise in while listening to their" muzik "(...)"

The album was released in 1994 and differs significantly from the later works of OutKast by a stronger influence of the then dominant gangsta rap , especially in the lyrics Big Bois and Dres . Musically, on the other hand, they already rely on live instrumentation .

success

The album debuted at number 20 on the US Billboard charts . Three singles ( Player's Ball , Git Up, Git Out and the title song) were released, of which Player's Ball , the first OutKast song ever, achieved the greatest success with 37th place. The then aspiring Puff Daddy could be won as video director . In 1995 OutKast won a Source Award with the album , but when it was presented in New York , the audience booed them because of their southern origin.

However, far greater than the commercial was the ideal success of OutKast as they use Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik mainly the former hip-hop -influenced, until then mainly between West - and East Coast happening and very synthesizers - or sample was -lastig. They were also the first successful rappers from Atlanta, now a hip-hop stronghold .
