Life

As the son of Jimmy Brown, the saxophonist and lead singer of the funk group Brick , Sleepy Brown came into contact with the music scene at an early age, in particular with Barry White , the Commodores and Parliament . It was in this environment that he met Rico Wade and Ray Murray, with whom he founded Organized Noize.

In this group he initially concentrated almost exclusively on producing and worked on mastering as many instruments as possible. He only did singing on the side, even when he sang the chorus on OutKast's first single Player’s Ball . He also founded two of his own funk groups, Society Of Soul and Sleepy's Theme , whose music, however, had little success. In 1996 he got the opportunity to make music with Curtis Mayfield when he collaborated with Organized Noize on his last album, New World Order .

At the beginning of the 2000s he began to appear more and more as a singer, initially mainly on the refrains of various hip-hop songs, especially on the OutKasts. His own single, I Can't Wait from the Barbershop 2 soundtrack , had some success in 2004, also with OutKast. As a result, his debut album For The Grown And Sexy should appear, but his record label DreamWorks Records was bought by Interscope and integrated there. This resulted in musical differences, so he left the label and released his solo debut under the new name Mr. Brown and with some new songs on Big Bois Purple Ribbon Records, including the single Margarita , with Big Boi and Pharrell .
